Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like furniture leg. They also feature a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to provide better cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and look better. If you're willing some more volume and a little more cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode.
